About OMB Internship
The internship is designed to help participants gain a deep understanding of the complexities of state government financial operations within the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) while collaborating with other state agencies. Interns will develop proficiency in all facets of the First State Financial modules and gain insight into the financial relationships between OMB and other agencies.
Additionally, this program focuses on fostering professional, leadership, and management skills to support interns' ongoing growth. High school seniors, college students, and recent graduates will gain valuable exposure to the OMB culture and daily operations. We recognize that many job opportunities prioritize candidates with educational and professional experience, this internship aims to provide participants with hands-on experience, clarify career goals, and enhance their resumes. Throughout the program, interns will work in diverse environments, acquire new skills, and build a professional network to support career development.
Objective of the Internship
To facilitate a smooth transition into an office working environment. The learning experience during the internship is achieved through a blend of clear explanations, repeated practice, and constructive feedback from the supervisor. For the program to be successful, it is essential that interns carry out their responsibilities in alignment with the expectations set by leadership. Supervisors are encouraged to assign additional tasks and provide diverse learning opportunities to ensure interns are fully prepared to pursue a career in State Government.

- Accounts Receivable
- Purchase Orders
- Procurement Cards (PCARDS)
- Reporting
- Policies and Procedures
- Research Projects
- Office Etiquette
- Communication Skills
Eligibility Requirements
Each internship will be hosted in person at the Dover office (122 Martin Luther King Blvd. South, Dover, Delaware).
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at college, community college, or university (two-to four-year institution) OR recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program at college, community college, or university (two-to four-year institution)
- Applicants currently enrolled in college must be pursuing a degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2.5 GPA
- Reliable transportation
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Self-motivated, hard-working, and well-organized
- A passion for financial processing and state government work
Expected Work Hours
- While in school: Interns may work between 10–15 hours per week
- Post-graduation: Minimum of 20 hours and maximum of 37.5 hours per week
- Summer hours: Interns are expected to work a minimum of 30 hours and a maximum of 37.5 hours per week

Paid Internship
- The starting hourly rate for this position will be based on the applicant’s knowledge and experience.
